  • Condition: Excellent original condition, showing some paint loss on the outside top from use during WWII. The liner is in excellent condition, still mostly flexible and the crown pad has some give to the foam. There is some very light rust freckling here and there and the chinstraps show some soiling and reddish staining, but overall the helmet is excellent. Please see photos.

    Description

This is an original, 1938 and 1939-dated British WWII Mark II helmet with original paint, liner, and straps. The helmet is stamped with "II" over the date 1938 on the chinstrap lugs. The liner is stamped inside with "7 J.C.S. & W. Ltd." on the liner. This indicates that the liner was made by J. Compton Sons & Webb Ltd. in 1939, and is a men's hat size 7. I could find no marks on the helmet shell, they are not obscured by paint because the helmet only has one coat of the factory original paint, so any markings were either faint or never applied. The chinstrap is the pre- to early WWII type with brass springs, the adjusting buckle is blackened brass. The brass loops at the ends of the chinstraps measure 7/8" across from outside edge to outside edge The riveted lugs that hold the chinstrap to the helmet appear to be unpainted aluminum. The paint is a brownish / green / OD, the paint on the inside is the same as the outside. The liner is the oilcloth type with black adjusting string, the pad in the crown is oval with foam rubber backing. The nut securing the liner is brass, this is the original factory-applied nut. One of the small cylindrical rubber bumpers associated with the liner has come detached but it is included if you want to re-attach it. ************* The helmet is in excellent original condition, showing some paint loss on the outside top from use during WWII.
