Description
Gordon Highlanders Glengarry Bydand Military CapProvenance - I obtained this item at an estate sale in Western Pennsylvania.
Age - I am not sure if this is a WW1 or WW2 style cap. The seller was unable to share further info on the previous owner.
Fabric - The cap is mostly wool. Color is a very dark blue, almost black. The red, white and black dice band is a woolen knit. Grosgrain ribbon on the back of cap. Red toorie (pom pom) still on the top of cap.
The Bydand (steadfast) badge is pinned to the cap with an old style pin that slips through the two posts on the back of the badge. Appears to be white metal. Non-magnetic, but not silver.
Worn by the Scottish Gordon Highlanders, a line infantry regiment of the British Army from 1881 until 1994. In 1994 it was joined with the Queens Own Highlanders. In 2006 they became the 4th Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland.
Condition -
Musty odor
. Showing a good bit of wear especially along the lower edge of cap. Wool has been moth eaten. The back ribbons have one hole each which look like they were caused by a pin? Please see the many photos.
